Champions At Last

For the first time in 48 years the Big Apple has a champion basketball team. The WNBA New York Liberty defeated the 4-time champion Milwaukee Lynx 67-62 to take the series 3-2. The last men’s New York team to win a championship was the 1973 New York Nicks.

The New York Liberty are an American professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The Liberty compete in the Women's National Basketball Association as part of the league's Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 1997 and is one of the eight original franchises of the league.

The Liberty’s mascot is Elle the Elephant who was introduced in 2021 and is known for her sass and dance moves.
